http://www.mindmeister.com/maps/show/66229862 The web tool that I used was called “MindMeister.” It was an interesting tool to use and easy to use. There is nothing that needs to be downloaded to use this tool; it can also be edited at anytime. You create an account. To look at the information you need a password and user name. For this class the user name is reading and the password is concordia. What you do is make a flow chart. You start with your topic in the middle. I chose animals. From that topic I came up with things that I knew about animals, and questions that I had about them. Off of each subtopic you can add more lines to break each topic down into smaller categories. There is also a way to link to subtopics together by adding an arrow. Each subtopic was put in a different color to tell everything apart. The categories of each subtopic were colored the same as the subtopic so there is no confusion as to what goes where. I would use this web tool in my class as a way for students to brainstorm before a writing project. It is easy to use and a way for them to see how all of their topics might connect, it can also help them to stay organized by using the different colors. It could be used as a KWL chart also. For students to have a given topic and have lines coming off of what they know what they want to know and at the end they can say what they learned. The color coding can also help show what they knew, what they learned, and what they wanted to know.
